Bordeaux, capital of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is a great city of art and wine, whose historic centre, known as the Port of the Moon, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its honey-coloured 18th-century façades, the Place de la Bourse and its famous Water Mirror, the Cathedral of Saint-André and the Grosse Cloche invite a long stroll along the Garonne.
The city is also the world capital of wine: the Cité du Vin, opened in 2016, offers a sensory journey through the world’s wine cultures, while the Rue Sainte-Catherine, the Chartrons and the Saint-Pierre district are full of wine shops, restaurants and boutiques. The canelé, a local speciality, is enjoyed in every pastry shop.
Bordeaux is an ideal gateway to the Médoc, Saint-Émilion, the Arcachon Bay and the Dune du Pilat. Well connected by train to Paris and by its international airport, it is easily visited over a long weekend.
