Lacanau, in the Gironde, is a seaside resort on the Silver Coast, made up of Lacanau-Océan, facing the Atlantic, and Lacanau-Ville, beside the lake. Its long, fine sandy beaches, fringed with dunes and the great Landes forest, attract surfers, families and nature lovers, with regular waves that make it one of south-west France’s main surf spots.
The resort hosts surf competitions, schools for all levels and a lively summer scene, with restaurants, shops and a seafront promenade. Inland, Lacanau Lake offers sailing, windsurfing and walking in a calmer setting.
About an hour from Bordeaux, Lacanau can be visited for a day or a longer stay, combined with the Médoc, the Arcachon Bay or the Dune du Pilat. The cycle path linking the town to the ocean lets you discover the forest by bike.
