Les Sables-d’Olonne, in the Vendée, is a lively seaside resort, famous for its large fine-sand beach lined by the remblai, a wide promenade running along the bay for more than two kilometres. The town brings together three districts: the seaside centre, La Chaume, a former fishing village with its Arundel tower, and Olonne-sur-Mer.
The fishing and leisure harbour enlivens the quayside, where you can enjoy fish and seafood. Les Sables-d’Olonne is also the start and finish port of the Vendée Globe, the solo round-the-world sailing race held every four years, which draws thousands of visitors.
The Sainte-Croix Abbey modern art museum, the Olonne forest, salt marshes and wild beaches complete the offer. Close to the Île d’Yeu, Noirmoutier and the Marais Poitevin, the town is an ideal base for exploring the Vendée coast.
