Fort la Latte

Fort La Latte, at Plévenon in the Côtes-d’Armor, is a spectacular medieval fortress set on a rocky spur on the English Channel, a few kilometres from Cap Fréhel. Built in the 14th century and later reworked to withstand artillery, it can be visited with its drawbridge, keep, chapel and gun batteries, facing cliffs that plunge into the sea.

From the walkway, the view takes in the Baie de la Fresnaye, the Emerald Coast and, on a clear day, the Channel Islands. The remarkably authentic setting has been used for several films, including The Vikings in 1958.

A visit pairs naturally with a walk on Cap Fréhel, its pink sandstone cliffs and lighthouse, and a stop in Saint-Malo or Dinan. It is one of northern Brittany’s most memorable outings, best enjoyed outside peak hours.
